After several online research, I picked up the above photo, taken by Barry Bottomley.
My Observations:
The triangular form – The three main focuses of the photo.
The guy with the AON Shirt.
The guy on the skateboard.
The elderly man sitting down topless listening to music.
The photographer narrows down to one person by playing with exposure:
AON shirt guy – Underexposed.
Skateboard – Half properly exposed.
Topless guy – Properly to over-exposed.
Main Contrast - A Busy, modern place, and the old man chilling topless listening to music.
Focus on the old man:
Music with earphones – Modern style
Topless – Ignoring the rest of the people as if alone.
Looks as if he was taken from another place and photoshopped.
Furthermore, I have also done some research online and found some online comments by Brian Lloyd Duckett (2020). I have summarised the main comments which I have not already mentioned below:
He liked the fact that this photo captures true, everyday life.
He also commented positively about the balance provided by the guy with the AON shirt
Criticises – Could show his face better, though understands that Bottomley did not have time to set even more perfectly, since it is street photography.
The sense of harmony and balance have also been mentioned in the review.
However, he also noted that the skateboarder breaks this slightly with a sense of energy.
Point of Improvement - Could have been better if the skater would be more blurred with a slower shutter speed.
